PROVO – The Utah State Aggies traveled to LaVell Edwards Stadium Friday night and notched their first back-to-back wins over BYU since 1973-74 after s 45-20 rout of the Cougars. Jordan Love led USU in the win, completing 18 passes for 165 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for another score.
BYU was reliant on the arm of Tanner Mangum throughout the game with an ineffective running game and as they tried to play catch-up. He finished the night completing 27 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns but also threw an interception that Aggie linebacker Tipa Galeai returned 56 yards for a touchdown. Mangum was also strip-sacked by Jontrell Rocquemore.
With the win, Utah State improves to 4-1 on the season and will now focus on their remaining Mountain West Conference schedule beginning with UNLV next week. With the loss, BYU drops to 3-3 on the season and will host MWC foe Hawaii next Saturday night at LaVell Edwards Stadium at 8:15 p.m. MDT on ESPN2.
