SALT LAKE CITY – The Salt Lake Bees took the field for the first time in 612 days falling to the Reno Aces 5-4 on Opening Night at Smith’s Ballpark.
The Bees came into the ninth inning trailing 5-2 but got back within a run thanks to a Luis Rengifo two-run homer. Following Rengifo’s home run Matt Thaiss worked a walk and Kean Wong was intentionally walked to bring relief pitcher Jake Reed to the plate with two outs. Reed grounded out to end the rally for the shorthanded Bees who started the game with only nine available position players and were forced to concede the designated hitter after an injury to LF Luis Aviles Jr. in the fourth inning.
