PROVO – The 25th-ranked BYU Cougars improved to 3-1 on the season after defeating the McNeese State Cowboys 30-3 Saturday at LaVell Edwards Stadium. BYU’s defense enjoyed a dominant performance in the win as they forced four turnovers in the game and blocked a field goal in the second quarter. They also didn’t allow a third down conversion to the Cowboys, who finished the day with just 207 total yards
BYU scored a 24 points in the second quarter to break open the game after a sluggish start. Lopini Katoa and Squally Canada led the way for the Cougars on offense, both carrying the ball 10 times with Katoa notching 65 yards and two touchdowns and Canada finishing with 60 yards and a fumble, the Cougars lone turnover on the day. Tanner Mangum completed 15 of 25 passes for 118 yards and one touchdown to Talon Shumway. The Cougars finished with 291 total yards on offense.
