SALT LAKE CITY (March 13, 2013) – The Zone Sports Network today announced a new affiliation for its three stations to become NBC Sports Radio affiliates, strengthening the mix of local and national programming that includes Utah Jazz and Salt Lake Bees games to national sports talk and news coverage during nights and weekends as well as hourly national sports updates. NBC Sports Radio can be heard on 1280 The Zone (KZNS-AM), 97.5 (KZNS-FM) and 960 (KOVO-AM) beginning Monday, March 18.
NBC Sports Radio features national commentators such as former NBA Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy, six-time NFL Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb, NBC Universal sports reporter and host Michelle Beadle, and winning Super Bowl coach Tony Dungy. Many of the NBC personalities will make regular contributions to The Zone’s local programming, which remains the same with David James and Patrick Kinahan from 6-10 a.m., Jake Scott and Tony Parks from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Scott Garrard from 1-3 p.m., and The Big Show with Spencer Checketts and Gordon Monson from 3-7 p.m.
“Through our superstation, The Zone has assembled the finest sports programming in Utah with the addition of NBC Sports Radio,” said Chris Baum, senior vice president of broadcasting for Miller Sports Properties. “Our local and national lineup of the best sports radio talent and live game broadcasts is unmatched and provides our listeners with informative and entertaining sports coverage.”
NBC Sports Radio is distributed through Dial Global, and The Zone will be the broadcast home for upcoming NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships and expanded coverage of the National Football League, including play-by-play coverage of the Sunday tripleheader, Monday Night Football and every playoff game, including the Super Bowl.
“We are thrilled to partner with The Zone and to bring NBC Sports Radio to the ‘Crossroads of the West,’” said Chris Corcoran, Dial Global’s Executive VP/GM, Sports. “We look forward to delivering great sports talk radio to the fans of Salt Lake City.”
The Zone is the only sports radio station in the market that delivers live and local sports radio coverage every day from 6 a.m.-7 p.m., resulting in 97.5 and 1280 being Utah’s highest rated and most listened to sports radio station.
The Zone Sports Network is part of the Miller Sports Properties, which also include the Utah Jazz, Salt Lake Bees, EnergySolutions Arena, Miller Motorsports Park, KJZZ TV, Tour of Utah and All-Star Catering.
