The Big Show: Recap of Monday March 11th 2013

-Split Story:

The Jazz are desperate for wins right now, and both Spence/Gordon agree that it's just about time to "pull the rip chord" on the season. As this is being written, the Jazz are warming up for the game against Detroit. A game both guys feel should result in a win. However, a loss would tell fans/the organization/Corbin more about what the immediate plans moving forward should be....stay with the soon-to-be-former-Jazz players Millsap/Jefferson and try for the playoffs, or pull the chute and play the youth.

Chris Hill's job could and SHOULD be in jeopardy, if these allegations prove to be true about former swimming coach Greg Winslow, and if the school/AD's office ignored complaints from parents/athletes about Winslow. Gordon wrote a column on Sunday which called for Hill to be fired, AS LONG AS the allegations proved to be true and Hill knew about it. Gordon wanted to stress, though, that he likes Chris Hill, and has had a pleasant personal AND professional relationship with the good doctor for awhile. But none of that matters, if these things did in fact happen under Hill's watch and during his tenure at the helm. Spence added that outside of the sexual abuse allegations, this should not be likened to the Penn State scandal, as they are two very different situations: One involves adults being mistreated in practices, while the other involved unspeakable abuse being inflicted on young children (though, as stated previously, you CAN lump the sexual allegations against Winslow into that as the girl was under the age of 18).

-NBA Assist: Chris Mannix (Sports Illustrated & NBC Sports Radio)

Mannix talked about the future of the Jazz, and whether or not Ty Corbin is doing the right thing by trying to make the playoffs this year with guys who will more than likely be in different uniforms next season. Mannix agrees with Gordon that Favors and Kanter miss out on valuable in-game experience when Millsap/Jefferson are healthy, but Mannix also sees the importance of making the playoffs. And not just for the financial reasons an NBA franchise would enjoy, but for the playoff experience the future of the Jazz, the aforementioned Kanter & Favors, would be able to have. So Mannix sided with Spence in that he sees the importance of making the playoffs, even if it's frustrating to see playing time for Kanter/Favors sacrificed in pursuit of that goal.

(attached sound bytes: 1-importance of making the playoffs, 2-don't resign Jefferson or Millsap, 3-Favors and Kanter are the future)

-What Gordon Thinks

Kevin O'Connor usually joins us at 5pm on Mondays, but he had an important conference call he couldn't miss this week. So instead we resurrected an old staple feature of The Big Show, "What Gordon Thinks," and got a more in depth explanation from Gordon about what's going on at the U of U with all these allegations (see Split Story's description).

Tuesday's show:

Split Story at 3
NBA Assist at 4 (Kevin Pelton, NBA Insider for ESPN.com)
Ty Corbin at 5
