BOOZER RUMORS STARTING TO FLY
May 31st, 2009

Carlos to Detroit or Toronto?

Although Carlos Boozer could be headed to Detroit in a free-agent deal in July, there’s a chance he’ll end up going to Toronto in a package for Chris Bosh. The Bulls remain interested in Bosh, but Luol Deng would have to be part of a package going to the Raptors. The Raptors, privately, are acknowledging for the first time that they might need to trade Bosh, rather than risk losing him to free agency in 2010.

Boozer to Detroit or New Jersey???

Apparently, rising free agent-of-choice Carlos Boozer is telling confidants he’s either going to Detroit or New Jersey—only way the capsized Nets pull that off is by doing a sign-and-trade. Word has it Jersey will have but three assistants next season and all must take pay cuts.

Keep in mind that both these stories come from New York from Mitch Lawrence and Peter Vecsey two guys who would rather be first than accurate. First sells and rumors sell in New York. Detroit is obvious and we’ve talked about that as the likely destination for Boozer for months. Toronto and Bosh? He’s not likely to stay in Utah past next season becuase he’s part of the famed 2010 free agent class so not much gained there long term. New Jersey has Robin Lopez and since Devin Harris isn’t coming, not much else in a sign and trade. Throw in that the Jazz need to clear tons of space to stay under the tax long term and these deals outside of the Detroit part don’t seem to make much sense.

Here is a look at the teams that are mentioned in these articles to see if they make any sense for the Jazz:

SIGN AND TRADE NETS:

Jazz send Boozer to NJ:
Carlos Boozer $15M pre year
Nets send:
Bobby Simmons (1-year $10.6M) / 8.4 ppg.-4 rpg. 24.4 mpg
Ryan Anderson (1-year plus 2 option years $1.3M) 6’10 240 PF 2nd year 7.4 ppg / 4.7 rpg 21 years-old
Chris Douglas Roberts (1-year plus option years $450,000 / SG 2nd year 4.9 ppg / 22 years-old)

Nets won’t trade Brook Lopez and Yi doesn’t wants small market, see Milwaukee. Bad trade and Jazz wouldn’t take Simmons contract, one of the worst in the NBA. No deal.

SIGN AND TRADE WITH RAPTORS

Jazz send Boozer to Toronto:
Carlos Boozer $15M per year
Toronto send Chris Bosh to Jazz
Bosh on last year of deal at $14.5M, works straight up. He stays for one-year and you sign and trade him at the end of the year or at the deadline. He’s 25 years old with averages of 23 ppg and 10 rebounds. He’s an above average interior defender.

SIGN AND TRADE WITH PISTONS

Jazz send Boozer to Pistons $15M
Detroit sends:
No salaries match-up. Rip Hamilton makes nearly $11M next season but has 4-years to go on that deal and Jazz won’t absorb that contract. Tayshaun Prince has 2 left at nearly $10M left and he’s not worth that for Jazz. No other contracts get close to matching. No deal.

Keeping you informed on the Jazz off-season as always…..........
