Sorry Cinderella, Jake is happy with the Final Four
March 31st, 2008
Ladies and Gentlemen, the Bruce Smith of Virginia Tech baskeball, Dell Curry.
I am so happy right now! All four number one seeds at the end! OK, I have taken a lot of heat for my criticism of the Cinderella, and yes I was pulling for Curry to make magic happen on the last play yesterday, I’m not immune I got caught up in the moment. By the way how is he not a Virginia Tech Hokie, there is only one good basketball player ever to come from Tech and they let his unbelievably talented son go somewhere else! But Jason Richards missing that shot was the best thin that could have happened. Look at the match-ups that we have now, I got exactly what I wanted, the best teams competing for the top prize…
UNC vs. Kansas… Roy taking on his old team, that is a story line the “The Hills” would be proud of. Kansas has a lot to prove, to shake that Danny Manning sized monkey off of their back. Roy knows that his three best players are out the door after this season, it’s now or three years from now for him.
Memphis vs. UCLA… Calipari is playing the “Princeton on Steroids card” already (if that statement is accurate, how would you describe his New Jersey Nets teams? The Lakers on Lunesta?), and has convinced his team that they get no respect somehow. UCLA finally has what they were missing their previous two final four runs a strong interior presence, Kevin Love is a stud.
Bottom line, I’m sticking with my picks from the beginning of the tournament, UNC vs. UCLA in the finals. Think about it, the two most historic programs in college basketball history going head to head for the ultimate prize. I don’t care how special the Cinderella run, it doesn’t get any better than that.
