A guest entry from Mr. Kragthorpe
April 7th, 2008
Hey, P1s, this is Kurt Kragthorpe, the Salt Lake Tribune columnist and occasional fill-in guy on the Jake & Jim Show. I have to tell you about a little onversation I had with a couple of P1s over the weekend, in what almost amounted to an intervention. They’re huge fans of the Jake & Jim Show (as I am) and they made the point that they understand there will be changes in the lineup sometimes, but they still expect the full Jake & Jim value regardless of who’s
occupying the chairs. One of them said to me, “Kurt, I listened to Friday’s show and Ihave to say, Kari the intern was on the air for like five seconds and
she made more impact than you did in two hours. “I said, “Well, Kari does have a sweet voice.” And he said, “Yes, but that’s not the point. If you’re going to be on 1280 The Zone, you have to bring it—every day.” My response was, hey, whether I’m filling in for Jake or Jim, it’slike joining the Chicago Bulls and playing with Michael Jordan. “Sometimes, you just have to sit back and watch greatness in action.” He said that was a good analogy, but “it’s not like Jordan had to score every single point for the Bulls. How about the ‘97 NBA Finals against the Jazz, when Jordan passed for Steve Kerr for the series-ending shot? You can’t be Jordan. You can’t be Jake or Jim. But you can be Steve Kerr.” So that’s it. This week, filling in for Jake while he’s on The Big Show with Gordon Monson, I’m going to be Steve Kerr. I’m going to spot up and hit the open jumper when Jim passes me the ball. So keep listening, and let’s have a good week. KK
