Fishing with Fuchuck
June 11th, 2008
My old pal Winston and I spent three days up in Idaho, but the cool part is where we stayed. Our friends Chip and Kathy hosted us at the Cutthroat Inn in Rigby; and what a place it is. The cabins we stayed in were top shelf, however, it was the food that stole the show. Kathy makes some of the best biscuits and gravy I’ve ever had! Not to mention the giant waffles with sausage on the side, I can still taste them.
The first day we arrived its was uncommonly windy so we decided to take a ride on their 4-wheelers. Four hours later, the only thing that could have removed the smile from my face would have been a hammer hitting me on my foot. We checked out the twisting hilly country side from an awesome perspective. We also scouted the snake for the next two days.
A very nice aspect of Idaho is all the water you can fish. However on this trip we decided not to drive far and take advantage of how close the snake is to The Cutthroat Inn. The water was probably the highest it will be all year but fish always need to eat, so we weren’t deterred. The first day of fishing yeilded our biggest fish as Winston caught a 3 and a half pounder on a streamer.
I had much success nymphing. I don’t think we would have had any success if it wasn’t for our guide Chip. He set us up very nicely. We battled a lot of wind and I couldn’t help but wonder what the river is like in better conditions.

On our last day of fishing I got a taste of “better conditions.” For about an hour and a half Winston and I had hurled streamers to no avail. But then it happens. The fish just start responding and they didn’t stop for the next 3 hours. Chip kept putting us near the bank, we kept putting the streamers there and the fish kept hitting them. It was one of those rare times where you stop counting how many fish you’ve caught. I’d guess we netted around 15 and lost another 10 ( I just call those “long distance releases"). If I sit still for a minute, I still feel fish tugging my arm.

Before we knew it, unfortunately, we were home. That’s because the Cutthroat Inn is only 3 and a half hours away. Which makes it ideal for a fishing weekend or taking that special someone on a romantic get away.
Safe to say the snake river has quickly become one of my favorite rivers and I’ve already begun plotting my next trip to see my friends Chip and Kathy at the Cutthroat Inn.
If your interested in checking out The Cutthroat Inn, just call Chip or Kathy at 888-538-7963. Trust me you won’t regret it!
