RANDOM THOUGHTS FROM HONDA CENTER IN ANAHEIM
March 19th, 2008

-BYU seemed pretty relaxed and confident in talking with the media today here at the Honda Center (Hear 1 on 1 interviews with Plaisted, Tavernari & Fredette in Audio section).  Tavernari was his typical confident, borderline cocky self which I find refreshing.  He’s going to have to play that way and hit his three’s along with the other BYU perimeter players if they are going to finally get that first NCAA Tournament victory in 15 years.
-I asked Plaisted to sum up his year and he declined to do so...so I’ll do it for him.  Inconsistent.  Some games he was unstoppable while others he disappeared.  In facing 7-foot 253lb DeAndre Jordan he’ll have no choice but to play a good game and most importantly he’ll have to stay out of foul trouble.  If he has to go to the bench early BYU will be in serious trouble.
-You can tell Fredette was excited and maybe a little wide-eyed in regards to the tourney.  No surprise considering he’s a freshman but he can’t play that way when he hits the floor.  Typically teams that win games in the Big Dance do so because of good backcourts.  Not only does that put pressure on Murdock and Burgess but Fredette coming off the bench as well.
-The Honda Center (formerly the Pond) appears to be a pretty good facility.  The ugly brown seats have to go but I’m curious how many of those will be filled by BYU fans.  Obviously UCLA will come strong, Kentucky will bring their typical crowd by I’m not sure about the other teams here including the Cougars.
