NEXT ROUND OF JAZZ WORKOUTS…HOW DO THEY STACK UP?
June 11th, 2008
DeVon Hardin – California (6-11, 250 lbs.)
NBA Comparison: Darryl Dawkins
Strengths: Long and athletic bigman with great strength ... Has an NBA body, really trimmed down from a year ago and is moving much quicker… Very quick feet and explosive legs ... Runs the floor well ... Very aggressive under the basket ... With his long arms, plays big for his size ... Intimidating on the defensive end, good timing on shot blocks ... Loves to dunk the ball over guys ... Outstanding student with a 4.0 GPA in high school ...
Weaknesses: Must develop better moves around the basket ... Needs a couple years to develop his game ... Offensive game is still limited, his shooting form is good, just needs to keep working on it ... Needs to develop a mid range jump shot to complement his inside game ... Free throw shooting is really in need of improvement (under 40% as a freshman) ...
Sasha Kaun – Kansas (6-11, 250 lbs.)
Strengths: Good size and hustle for a big man ... Has shown significant improvement considering he only started playing basketball a few years ago ... Shows solid agility for a bigman ... Fights for rebounds; its refreshing to see his level of energy on the floor, especially from the post ... Led the team in offensive rebounds ... Was second to SG/SF Brandon Rush in rebounds at 5.3 per game but played just under 20 minutes per game ...
Weaknesses: Hands around the basket are a weakness; most of his points come off hustle and put back dunks ... Needs to develop a go to move in his junior year ... Free throws could use a lot of work, shooting only 53% from the charity stripe ... Needs to pound the glass this season to prove he can rebound at the next level ... May struggle for additional playing time this year with a full stable of bigmen at KU with Giles, jackson and incoming freshman Darrell Arthur ...
