MONDAY’S MADNESS
March 24th, 2008
-If you’re like me you are probably wiped out of the office bracket pool already. My guess is that those who are leading will be the secretary’s that picked Davidson to the Sweet 16 because they used to date or are married to or have a son named “David”. Last year I finished 3rd but this year I fully expect to be in the bottom half after getting just 9 of the Sweet 16 correct and with Georgetown falling I’m already down one Final Four team as well.
-I’m most upset about the pick I thought about making based on my heart but decided to go with my head instead. Those of you who listen regularly know I was born in West Virginia (insert married to family member joke here), grew up and still am a Mountaineer fan. Unfortunately though I picked Duke to beat WVU. Lesson learned…never go against your heart and your team.
-Teams like Davidson and Western Kentucky advancing should further make BYU fans bitter that their team went one and done once again. But those two teams both have something BYU doesn’t. A player that can create his own shot, make something happen and take over a game. Davidson has Stephen Curry while WKU has Courtney Lee. BYU doesn’t have that type of a player but if those two schools can get one you would have to think the Cougars can find one as well. If not they’ll never make a tourney run.
-Deron Williams finally brought a part of the NBA lifestyle to Utah inviting rapper Lil’ John to perform for CJ Miles and Ronnie Brewer’s birthday party at a local club that the public attended for $25 a pop (if you went please ). This has been missing from our state since, well, forever. It’s not like Karl Malone or John Stockton ever invited a rapper to perform. I’m not opposed to it although I’m more of a classic rapper guy myself like Run DMC, MC Hammer, Young MC (Bust A Move still one of my favorites-see video below) and the Fresh Prince. Plus Vanilla Ice deserves more credit as he was way before his time. Peace out.
Feel free to thoughts on the Tourney, the Blog or the station in general.
