MAX HALL RELEASES AN APOLOGY
November 29th, 2009

This just came from Max Hall
“I want to take the opportunity to clarify and apologize for a few of my remarks after the game yesterday. Last year at RES my family was spit on, had beer dumped on them, and were physically assaulted on several occasions. They had to endure extremely vile comments personally attacking my wife, my mother, other family members, and our religion. They had to be escorted to their car by local police. As a result of what happened to my family last year this rivalry became personal, and in the heat of the moment yesterday I made comments toward the entire university that were really directed specifically at those fans in RES. It was not intended to be directed at the entire organization and all of their fans and I apologize that it came out that way. I have the upmost respect for Kyle Whittingham, his coaching staff, and the Utah football players. I apologize to them and other members of the university for my comments. I’m also sorry if my comments took anything away from my teammates and coaches and our victory Saturday. The BYU-Utah game is a great rivalry, but no one should be treated the way my family was last year. I’m hoping that BYU and Utah fans can take steps to prevent future incidents at the game.”

— BYU Quarterback Max Hall

WEEK 12 NFL TOP 5/BOTTOM 5…WEEK 13 MWC FOOTBALL POWER POLL
November 24th, 2009

WHILE IT SUCKS WE HAVE TO WATCH THE LIONS EVERY THANKSGIVING, AT LEAST WE GET TO SEE THE COWBOYS CHEERLEADERS!

NFL TOP 5…BOTTOM 5 (Record/Last wk’s ranking):
TOP 5:
1) SAINTS (10-0; #1): Saints roll over Bucs.  Have a big showdown Monday night at home versus Pats.
2) COLTS (10-0; #2): Colts hold second longest winning streak at 19—just two behind Pats.
3) VIKINGS (9-1; #3): It pains me to say it…but Favre may be playing his best football in years.  How convenient.
4) CHARGERS (7-3; #5): It took awhile but the Chargers finally take over first in the AFC West.
5) PATRIOTS (7-3; NR): Pats return with methodical beating of the Jets.
Dropped out: BENGALS

BOTTOM 5:
1) BROWNS (1-9; #2): They put up a fight but when you lose to the Lions you are the worst team in the NFL.
2) RAMS (1-9; #3): Another week, another Lambs loss as they battle Browns and Bucs for 1st pick.
3) BUCS (1-9; #4): First the Off coord is fired.  Now the Def coord is fired.  Head coach next?
4) LIONS (2-8; #1): Lie-downs actually woke up to come back to beat the Browns.  Can’t wait to have them ruin our Thanksgiving.
5) SEAHAWKS (3-7; NR): Only could muster four yards rushing in blowout loss to Vikes.
Dropped out:  RAIDERS

MWC POWER POLL: (Last wk rank; records; next opp)
1.  TCU (#1; 11-0; 7-0; vs. NM):  One win away from a perfect season and busting into the BCS.
2.  UTAH (#2; 9-2; 6-1; @BYU):  A win over BYU should send the Utes to the Las Vegas Bowl.
3.  BYU (#3; 9-2; 6-1; vs. Utah):  Max Hall hopes to avenge last years loss to Utah in which he threw five interceptions.
4.  AIR FORCE (#4; 7-5; 5-3; Bye):  Despite the loss to BYU, the Falcons will be bowling for the third straight year.
5.  WYOMING (#5; 5-6; 3-4; @CSU):  The Pokes need a win to go bowling.
6.  SAN DIEGO STATE (#6; 4-7; 2-5; @UNLV):  Aztecs have lost three straight.
7.  UNLV (#7; 4-7; 2-5; vs. SDSU):  Will the Rebels give Mike Sanford a win in his last game?
8.  NEW MEXICO (#9; 1-10; 1-6; @TCU):  Good thing the Lobos got the win over CSU because it’s not going to happen this Saturday at TCU.
9.  COLORADO STATE (#8; 3-8; 0-7; vs. WYO):  Friday’s game versus Wyoming is the Rams last chance at a MWC win.

VIDEO: EVERYBODY LOVES CARLOS SAN ANTONIO EDITION!
November 19th, 2009

Booze averages 23 ppg and 14 rpg when the Jazz win (5) and just over 14 ppg and just over 9 rpg when the Jazz lose, (6). No ther player is even close when it comes to production difference in wins and losses than #5 for Utah. Like it or not, he’s the Jazz X-Factor. When they win, he plays well and everybody loves Carlos…......

WEEK 11 NFL TOP 5/BOTTOM 5…WEEK 12 MWC FOOTBALL POWER POLL
November 18th, 2009

The Chargers crack the Top 5.  They should have been there all along just based on their cheerleaders alone!

NFL TOP 5…BOTTOM 5 (Record/Last wk’s ranking):
TOP 5:
1) SAINTS (9-0; #1): Not that impressive versus Rams but are doing enough to keep on winning.
2) COLTS (9-0; #2): Indy needs to thank Bill Belichick for that victory.
3) VIKINGS (8-1; #3): Favre let AP shine a bit with 133 yards and two touchdowns.  Then again he had one of his best regular season performances as well.
4) BENGALS (7-2; NR): After sweeping Pittsburgh, Cincy is legit.
5) CHARGERS (6-3; #5): Maybe LT’s wife needs to get pregnant every week.
Dropped out: STEELERS

BOTTOM 5:
1) LIONS (1-8; #1): I get the sense they will remain here the rest of the season.
2) BROWNS (1-8; #2): Brady Quinn obviously isn’t the answer.
3) RAMS (1-8; #3): At least showed some fight against one of the best teams in the NFL.
4) BUCS (1-8; #4): Defense lets up a long drive to lose to Fish in final seconds.
5) RAIDERS (2-7; NR): Oakland replaces Chiefs after losing to them Sunday.
Dropped out:  CHIEFS

MWC POWER POLL: (Last wk rank; records; next opp)
1.  TCU (#1; 10-0; 6-0; @Wyo):  As long as they don’t stumble, the Frogs should be BCS bowling.
2.  UTAH (#2; 8-2; 5-1; vs. SDSU):  How will the Utes bounce back from the TCU beat down?
3.  BYU (#3; 8-2; 5-1; vs. AF):  If the Cougars play against Air Force the way they did against New Mexico they will lose.
4.  AIR FORCE (#4; 7-4; 5-2; @BYU):  The Falcons offense seems to finally be on track.
5.  WYOMING (#7; 5-5; 3-3; vs. TCU):  Great comeback win over the Aztecs.  Reality will set back in against the Frogs.
6.  SAN DIEGO STATE (#6; 4-6; 2-4; @Utah):  The Aztecs have to win their final two to reach a bowl.
7.  UNLV (#5; 4-7; 2-5; Bye):  Can any coach ever win at UNLV?
8.  COLORADO STATE (#8; 3-7; 0-6; @NM):  The Rams are looking to snap their seven game losing streak Saturday at New Mexico.
9.  NEW MEXICO (#9; 0-10; 0-6; vs. CSU):  It’s the Lobos last realistic chance at a win since they finish the season at TCU.

JAN JORGENSE, RILEY NELSON AND BRETT DENNY RACE, SEE WHO WINS AFTER THE JUMP.
November 17th, 2009

I used to love these drills. If you want some good drills for your kids at home, try these on for size. Have’em get up off their backs from every different angle and take off sprinting. It hurts, but it’s a very effective drill used at every level of football. Riley Nelson has gnarly break away speed but Jan and Brett keep up with him on the explosion. I can also tell you, I don’t know how much it means in the long run but everyone loves Riley… The O-line, the D-line, the wideouts, everyone. He’s a born leader and it’s going to be hard for a freshman to take away or match what he’s built. I would play my butt off for the kid….

Wanted to get a few thoughts from the guys on all types of issues, the conversation is in 2 parts.

WEEK 10 NFL TOP 5/BOTTOM 5…WEEK 11 MWC FOOTBALL POWER POLL
November 11th, 2009

Instead of the typical NFL cheerleader here is the new TCU Football commercial.  Actually pretty cool.

NFL TOP 5…BOTTOM 5 (Record/Last wk’s ranking):
TOP 5:
1) SAINTS (8-0; #1): First time in Saints history they’ve started the season 8-0.
2) COLTS (8-0; #2): Indy gets some luck as Kris Brown misses 42-yard FG.
3) VIKINGS (7-1; #3): It was nice not to hear one Brett Favre reference during bye week.
4) STEELERS (6-2; #4): This team is looking like the one that won a Super Bowl a year ago.
5) PATRIOTS (6-2; NR): So much for that early season talk about Tom Brady struggling.
Dropped out: EAGLES

BOTTOM 5:
1) LIONS (1-7; #2): Lie-Downs back in their rightful place.
2) BROWNS (1-7; #3):  Does Mike Homgren really want to take control of this bunch.
3) RAMS (1-7; #4): Just didn’t seem like a normal NFL Sunday without the Lambs losing.
4) BUCS (1-7; #1): Packers should be embarrassed they let rookie QB Josh Freeman beat them.
5) CHIEFS (1-7; #5): Second straight year Chiefs start 1-7.
Dropped out:  NONE

MWC POWER POLL: (Last wk rank; records; next opp)
1.  TCU (#1; 9-0; 5-0; vs. Utah):  A win over Utah and it should be clear sailing to an unbeaten season.
2.  UTAH (#2; 8-1; 5-0; @TCU): Is six quarters of action enough to prepare freshman quarterback Jordan Wynn for TCU’s defense?  We shall see.
3.  BYU (#3; 7-2; 4-1; @NM):  With 52-0 win over Wyoming, BYU has outscored Pokes 96-0 over last two years.
4.  AIR FORCE (#4; 6-4; 4-2; vs. UNLV):  Falcons bowl eligible for third straight season under coach Troy Calhoun.
5.  UNLV (#7; 4-6; 2-4; @AF):  Rebels need an upset over Falcons to hold out hopes for a bowl.
6.  SAN DIEGO STATE (#5; 4-5; 2-3; vs. Wyo):  Aztecs need to put the TCU beating behind them to focus on winnable game versus Pokes.
7.  WYOMING (#6; 4-5; 2-3; @SDSU):  Wyoming’s offense has been shut out two of their last three games.
8.  COLORADO STATE (#8; 3-7; 0-6; Bye):  After losing straight, the bye comes at a good time for the Rams.
9.  NEW MEXICO (#9; 0-9; 0-5; vs. BYU):  Lobos commit nine penalties for 81 yards in blowout loss to Utah.

I kicked my own butt after geeking out with this blog.
November 8th, 2009

I have turned into something I hate, a numbers guy… but look what I came across, I think it’s intriguing. I took all the games that Bronco has put together when having an extra day of practice and this is what I came up with.

2006
To open the season
13-16 L to Arizona…....... BYU outgained the wildcats 313 to 253 total yds offense. But they were beat in the turnover margin.
After bye
52-7 W UNLV
After a Thur. game
47-17 W SDSU
42-17 W NM
Bowl game
38-8 W Oregon

2007
To open the season
20-7 W Arizona
After bye
24-14 W UNLV
After a Thur. game
35-10 W Wyoming
Bowl game
17-16 W UCLA

2008
To open the season
41-17 W No. Iowa
After the bye week
34-14 W USU
After a Thur. game
42-35 W UNLV
Bowl game
21-31 L Arizona…..Again BYU had more production, 444 to 416 total yds. Again lost the turnover battle.

2009
To open the season
14-13 W No. 3 Oklahoma
After the bye
52-0 W Wyoming….

Break down!!!!!!!!!!!!
13 W and 2 L while outscoring their opponent 492 to 222, both of those loses coming to Arizona on the road.

I think this is a very telling number. It tells me that when Bronco has the time, and the athletes have the time, they are very powerful. You have to remember, other teams work on Sunday, on Monday nights (family home evening), on Tue, or Wed nights (coaches have church duties, ie. mutual). You need to know that I’m a big fan of Bronco’s plan, I like that he keeps sports in perspective, and that he wins a TON of games. I just like all BYU fans see a team this year that has underachieved. I mean come on, look what they did to Wyoming, sure Wyoming’s not the best team, but they’ve put up a good struggle this year with some great teams, and BYU flat out embarrassed them. I guess I raise the simple question, what if BYU had the time to prepare every week like the other schools? What if they didn’t take time off when others don’t? It sure makes me wonder, if they had an extra few days for TCU or Utah, would they have the upper hand? I guess we can only speculate with geeky numbers….
